Walailak University Digital Innovation Center Strengthens AI Governance Capabilities for Responsible and Ethical AI Adoption
The Digital Innovation Center (CDI), Walailak University, has strengthened its personnel’s knowledge and capabilities in AI Governance by sending staff members to participate in the practical training course “AI Governance Workshop: Good Governance and Responsible AI” (3rd Cohort). The workshop covered key areas ranging from AI ethics, impact and risk assessment, data management, and AI governance policy development to organizational governance frameworks. The training aims to enhance the Center’s readiness to support the safe, transparent, and responsible adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the University’s operations.
On September 3–4, 2026, Mrs. Nawaporn Chaisen, Computer Systems Analyst, and Ms. Nirada Phetkongthong, General Administration Officer, from the Digital Innovation Center, Walailak University, participated in the “AI Governance Workshop: Good Governance and Responsible AI” (3rd Cohort) at the Amari Bangkok Hotel. The training was organized by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), with Dr. Banchong Harangsee serving as the instructor. The workshop provided participants with knowledge of the fundamentals of AI and Machine Learning, the importance of AI governance, risks and cybersecurity threats associated with AI, AI ethics, human oversight, the European Union’s legal framework for AI governance, and relevant AI standards.
The course placed strong emphasis on hands-on workshops, enabling participants to apply AI Governance principles at the organizational level. Practical activities covered the development of organizational AI ethics principles; the establishment of governance structures, roles, duties, and responsibilities; AI system impact assessments; risk analysis related to AI system development; and the preparation of risk management plans. Participants also learned how to establish Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) aligned with risk management plans. In addition, the workshop included practical exercises on preparing datasets as a foundation for AI system learning, experimenting with AI systems to refine datasets and algorithms for the development of Machine Learning models, and drafting an AI Governance Policy to establish an appropriate and responsible framework for organizational AI adoption.
The participation in this training is part of the Digital Innovation Center, Walailak University’s ongoing efforts to develop personnel capabilities and prepare for the increasing adoption of AI across the University’s work processes. The knowledge and practical experience gained from the workshop can be further applied to developing an AI Governance framework covering policy, governance structures and responsibilities, impact and risk assessment, data and AI system governance, and ongoing risk monitoring through appropriate indicators. These efforts will support Walailak University in maximizing the benefits of AI while upholding ethics, security, transparency, and accountability, which are essential foundations for advancing the University through digital technology and artificial intelligence.
